Lighter balls move quickly but may disappear under furniture. Heavier balls move differently and may be less appealing to some cats. Consider floor type, noise, size and whether the ball has openings or inserts that could break.
Some cats enjoy carrying soft toys. Check sewn-on features and tails carefully. Decorative eyes, bells or string-like tails can become weak points if the toy is chewed heavily.
Longer fabric toys can give cats something to grab with the front paws and kick with the hind legs. Strong seams and durable fabric matter. Retire a kicker when stuffing becomes accessible or the exterior can no longer be cleaned adequately.
A toy that is constantly lost under appliances is not very useful. Baskets, lidded storage for supervision-only items, and a rotation routine can make a modest collection work better.
