Before travel day
- Inspect closures
- Add familiar bedding if appropriate
- Label the carrier
- Plan vehicle placement
- Keep veterinary information handy
Top-opening or removable-top designs can make handling easier in some situations. Soft and hard carriers have different storage, structure and cleaning trade-offs. Choose a carrier appropriate for the cat and the type of travel.
Inspect zippers, latches, clips, mesh and seams. The carrier should remain securely closed during transport. Follow manufacturer weight and usage guidance.
Airflow, stable flooring and an absorbent or washable liner can improve practicality. Avoid adding loose items that create a hazard during movement.
Secure the carrier as recommended for your vehicle and carrier design. For longer or unusual trips, ask your veterinarian about travel planning, stress, feeding, medication or health considerations.
