Confirm the manufacturer says unattended use is appropriate. Inspect the toy, its moving parts and the surrounding area.
A toy that repeats one predictable path may become less interesting over time. Consider whether movement varies and whether the cat can physically interact with the moving element without reaching unsafe mechanisms.
Battery covers should close securely. Charging cords should not be left where a cat can chew them. Follow the manufacturer’s charging and storage directions and stop using damaged equipment.
Motor noise that seems mild to a person may be unwelcome to a cautious cat. Introduce the device at a distance, let the cat choose whether to approach, and do not force interaction.
Powered toys can be part of a broader setup that also includes human-led play, scratching, climbing, hiding and rest. They are a convenience category, not a replacement for all other interaction.
