Accessory rule
Tools that touch skin, nails, ears or teeth deserve more caution than ordinary household accessories.
Short coats, long coats and dense undercoats can require different tools. If you are unsure what is appropriate, ask a veterinarian or qualified groomer rather than using an aggressive tool by trial and error.
Introduce grooming gradually and stop if the cat becomes distressed or handling becomes unsafe. Do not force a prolonged session simply to finish the whole coat at once.
Damaged teeth, rough edges or dirty grooming tools can create problems. Clean according to the manufacturer’s instructions and replace worn equipment.
Mats, skin changes, pain, overgrooming or a sudden inability to groom may need veterinary attention rather than a new accessory.
