Building a Cat Play Routine
Anchor play to existing habits
A short session before a normal household routine may be easier to maintain than an elaborate schedule. Choose times when the cat is naturally alert and interested.
Vary the function
Do not make every session a wand session. Alternate chase, puzzle, bat, kick or exploratory activities across the week.
Use behaviour as feedback
If a cat walks away, slows down or becomes over-aroused, adjust. Senior cats and cats with health or mobility concerns may need different intensity; ask a veterinarian if you are unsure what activity is appropriate.
End with storage and inspection
Put supervision-only equipment away and give used toys a quick damage check. This makes safety part of the routine instead of a separate project.
