Toy rotation is partly about novelty and partly about maintenance. When only a manageable set is active, it becomes easier to notice damage, clean toys and remember which categories the cat actually uses.
Toy Rotation & Storage
Sort by supervision level
Keep string, wand, feather or other supervision-only toys in secure storage. Solo-access toys should still be inspected regularly and removed if damaged.
Rotate by category
Instead of randomly swapping five similar balls for five other balls, rotate across functions: chase, bat, kick, puzzle, scent and scratch. This gives the active set more variety.
Use a simple schedule
Weekly, every two weeks, or whenever interest drops can all work. The exact calendar matters less than a routine you will actually maintain.
Clean as you rotate
Rotation day is a convenient time to inspect seams, wash appropriate items, wipe hard surfaces and discard damaged pieces.
